Animation : 12 Principles of Animation.

TASK 2

12 principles of animation.

1. Exaggeration.
 - An action which is more extreme that normal human cant do in real life. Purposes is to give a more powerful and strong feeling to the character. Example, the character is shocked and its eyes are about to drop out and mouth dropped all the way down to the floor.

2. Squash and Stretch.
 -  Most important principle in animation as its purpose is to give weight and flexibility to the character to give a more lively feel. For example, the ball is thrown down and its squashed when hit the bottom of the surface and then stretched when coming up from the surface.

3. Arc.
 - Gives a natural feel to the character. Arc makes movements flows more smoothly. Commonly the parts of the character which requires arc is the head, hand, legs and eyes as they would turn.

4. Anticipation.
- An action to prepare the audience for a major action. Example, the character does not just eat a cake just like that but requires a little bit of slow movement for audience to anticipate then go for the cake.

5. Slow in slow out.
 - To soften the action making it more life-like. More drawing makes the movements slower while fewer drawings makes the movements faster. The example is when a tails moves slow in and slow out is applied for it to move more lively.

6. Follow Through and Overlapping
 - Follow through is the catching up parts when the character stops. Normally is the arms, hair, coat tails or long tail. Overlapping is the action when the character is running and then changes direction all of a sudden and then the cape does not follows at first but catches up just a few frames later.

7. Staging.
 -  The background of an animation. As the background plays an important role because it can help present the story more clearly. Without a proper stage, the story cant be presented clear as the audience would be confused and the message or story cannot be present clearly.

8. Straight ahead.
 - Its started as the first frame is drawn till the end but in fresh and spontaneous way. Usually is applied to fast and wild actions.

9. Pose to pose.
 - A more planned out drawing in the scene and size, volumes and proportions is carefully taken into account as the frames are continuosly drawn to give a smooth animation.

10. Secondary action.
 -  An action adding to the main action. For example, while dancing, the hair and dress is bouncing up and down. Another example is while walking, the hands are slightly swaying along.

11. Solid Drawing.
 - The basic form. weight, solid volume and illusion of three dimension applied to the character to make it look lively.

12. Timing.
 - More frames makes the animation slower while less frames makes the animation faster. Timing is very important as if an animation is badly timed, the outcome of the whole animation may be destroyed, the whole story too might changed and presents the wrong idea to the audience.

Study Skills : How Animation impact our world today?

TASK 3

How Animation impact our world today?
Animation is a graphic representation of images or drawings to show movement, spirit and life within. It is created by linking a series of the images together and by slightly changing between the individual frames, and when it is played back it will appears as movements. There are two ways to create an animation and is called the traditional animation and stop motion animation. Examples of animation are flipbook, and also motion picture film. Thus, animation to me is a very interesting and fun field where we can explore and create characters based on our imaginations and giving life to it, introduce it to our world and makes people happy.

Animation today had been contributing a lot in our world such as in the entertainment and technology field. Animation had always been a very interesting field as the jobs or tasks given are always very challenging and full of creativity. In additional, animation can be interesting it is because of in animation, the creator of the certain character can explore different types of expression, movement and also giving personality that no one on this world would have in other words, the creators can make the characters do what normal human beings can’t. Animations are used in many other industries such as gaming, advertisements and also movie. In the movie industries, recently popular animation cartoons such as Car’s, Wreck-it- Ralph and Despicable Me are created using animation because if it were created using real life actors and actresses, it may not come out as expected as I had mentioned above that animations can do what normal human beings can’t. Also, by having these animation movies, families can enjoy watching together as there are no limits in age when it comes to animation cartoons and I’m sure they will love watching it together as a family.

Ever wondered why gamers around the world are so attracted to their games? It is because, that the games are created using animation with the combination of CGI ( Computer Generated Images ) which makes them more attractive and also more lively. In the game industry, animation are used mostly in storytelling of  how the game starts and progress and also the movements and expressions of the character in the game. Great characters leaves great impressions to the gamers. The more lively and more realistic the character is, the percentages of the gamers to believe that the game they are playing are more realistic would be higher and then, later on they would make them as their superhero or idol in their lives. Same as the gaming and also movie industries, animation helps in advertising areas too, the more attractive the animation is, the more attracted users or people are to the advertisement and the message that were supposed to be sent are accepted clear and understandable. The animation in advertising are not some easy job like what other people sees from the outside as it requires lots of great ideas from animators to think of how to relate the animation with the product or selling items with the message that the clients want to send out to the users.

In conjunction with entertainment, animation has also great impact in the technology industry as nowadays, technology grows fast and it won’t stop for anyone. Every year new animations are created and the method or tools that they use are getting more and more advanced. For example, animation in the early days are created using just papers and pens or pencils and now, by using computer a simple yet smooth animation character or clip can be created. This shows how technology had moved on and by moving on, it means that animators today are still moving along with technology to bring out more lively, realistic and also the greatest achievement whom every animators dreamed that is creating an animation that is similar or close to real life acting.
Conclusion, animation plays great role in our world these days as they are important in bringing entertainment and also technology develops through them. Peoples from the animation fields are continuingly advancing to make better and greater animations which requires lots of research and developments and trials and errors which shows that animation can also be one of the mediums of idea development.

Study Skills : What is Graphic Design?

TASK 2

What is Graphic Design?

Graphic Design is a creative process that combines both art and technology to communicate ideas by combining text and pictures in advertisements, magazines, books and etc. Graphic Design is also a very large base that contains many fields such as typography, art style and even cultural designs. Back in the olden days, all graphic designs were hand-drawn and painted manually by artists or graphic designers while now we can all create it by using CGI ( Computer Generated Images ). In addition, graphic design can be used to make the visuals or designs to be more artistic, interesting and also attractive.

It all started from the year 1950s where publishing industry were seriously in need of it after the World War II. Publishers are hiring graphic designers from everywhere for their magazines, newspapers and all publishing medias of sorts. Visual designs are needed and it had been emerged from the western countries right after World War II and continuing till today. Beautiful packages, clearly seen signboards are being used and it gets more and more creative more and more attractive as time goes by, the tight competition between publishing companies are getting more and more intense for the search of new and young graphic designers and also demanding them to create new, attractive and creative designs for their product or package for customers to get full attraction by the designs and the urge to bring back or to buy the products can be seen.

Graphic designs are now a part of our lives no matter in wherever we are, the package of every household products, the signboards on the road, even on the flyers or brochures that people used to promote their products are all full of graphic designs and is designed by great graphic designers. Technology wise, graphic design has grown over the years and its now highly technically used, from hand-drawing to computer generating, it can be seen as it has become a highly considered professional field of work.

What is Graphic Designer?

Everything has got their own creator, even humans. So, why not for graphic design? The creator of graphic designs are called graphic designers. The role of a designer is not only just design but also the middleman or spokesperson between the client and also the consumer. As a designer and to achieve the expectation and requirements of the client, the designer must first of all do a research on the concept and also the theme required by the client and then combine both the concept and theme into a design that will satisfy both the client and the consumer.

The method for it would be after researching on the theme and concept given by the clients, makes lots of sketching of ideas with different combinations and show it to the client explaining why and how is it that the design is in such way for them to understand clearly of the design. After discussing and selecting the wanted design, the sketch is then added with typographic design to help improve and to add the effect of the design. Also, after all the designing is done its time to bring the sketch design into the real design itself. The designer is required to re-sketch another sketch of the design but this time in a more detailed version. One mistake and the design will be a failure, and so the designer must be in full concentration for this design to be a complete and perfect final product.

Not to forget, messages behind the design is equally important to the design because no matter how great or beautiful the design is, if it failed to bring out the message behind it is going to be a total mass failure. The designer must make sure that the message is sent to the consumer in a not boring and dull way, as it is used to prevent a long and boring face to face talk session when promoting the product. Designers talk using designs not long boring words coming out from the mouth. Lastly, whether the product is a good or bad product it is determined by examining using  the deconstruction  method where they discussed on how, why and what the design is made in such way.
